Our cycling groups are full of enthusiasm and always looking for new members to join them. As a relatively new Club we recognise the number and character of our cycling groups will change. We now offer seven Saturday groups, designated KZero through to K6, depending on the distance and average speed the riders will be expecting to achieve. We also offer 4 Wednesday groups, one at K2/K3 pace, one at K4 pace, one at K5 pace and one at K6 pace.

The routes and any café stops are organised by the groups themselves and if you ride with any of them frequently throughout the year there will not be too many places in Kent that you won’t have visited. Starting out from Marden means we can take in the diverse countryside that Kent has to offer, from the hills of the North Downs and beyond to the flatlands of the Romney Marshes, from our cathedral cities of Rochester and Canterbury to the golden sands of Dymchurch and the coast.

Saturday group rides start from Scarab Fayat Car Park on Pattenden Lane, Marden on Saturday mornings at 09.00hrs however, some groups may indicate an earlier start time in the Summer or, on an ad-hoc basis, for a particular destination. Some groups will occasionally decide to start from alternative locations - such things are organised at group level so please get in touch for more information.

The Club continues to grow and offer a more diverse range of cycling activities, including the more recent additions of Gravel and Mountain Bike (MTB) group rides. See below for more information on each.

Please note Mid-Week groups rides start generally from Marden Library car park unless otherwise notified.

All the groups operate a no drop policy, so if you are having an off day or have trouble with your bike, the leader for the ride will make sure that a plan is put in place to help you back safely to base.

Recognising current Government guidance and being mindful of other road users, the Club does not permit more than six cyclists to ride together. Where more than six riders gather in any of the groups below, then the Leader will divide the riders into the appropriate number of sub groups of six or less and appoint leaders for each sub group.

On occasions the distances can be a little more than those indicated below if the group has a particular destination in mind. In general though this is how our groups operate.

Group Communications

The Groups communicate via their own dedicated WhatsApp groups. These are ‘K20 Member’ only groups.

For non-members interested in K20 Cycling Club and wishing to ride with one of our Groups, please contact the Group Ride Captain HERE for more information.

Saturday rides

Coordinator: Toby Alldridge

KZero- Our fastest group with a target average speed of 18-20+. They leave Marden at 9am with most rides between 55 and 65 miles with a café stop at just over half way. In the summer they will occasionally leave early for longer rides to the coast or for a shorter fast ride with no stopping.

Coordinator: Peter Robertshaw

K1 - With a target average speed of 17-19mph. They leave Marden at 9am with most rides between 55 and 65 miles with a café stop at just over half way. In the summer they will occasionally leave early for longer rides to the coast or for a shorter fast ride with no stopping.

Coordinator: Malcolm Wyllie

K2 - This group rides with a target average speed of 16-18 mph for each ride. They leave Marden at 09.00 hrs on rides of 50-60 miles and have a café break at roundabout the halfway point.

Coordinator: Del Leslie

K3 - These have a target average of 15-17 mph for each ride and also leave Marden at 09.00 hrs with the same sort of distances covered as the two faster groups, and like K2 also have a mid point café stop.

Coordinator: Paul Brown

K4 - Whilst still looking to have a purposeful ride at 14-16 mph, this group is likely to stop for a breather just a little more often than its faster siblings. Start time is between 08.30 and 09.00 hrs and rides are just a little shorter at 45-55 miles. They will have a café stop during the ride.

Coordinator: Ian Johnson

K5 - A group for those who just want to push themselves a little now and again but not too much! K5 usually ride at a speed of 13-15 mph and cover a distance of about 40-50 miles. Plenty of breaks to catch your breath and don’t forget the all important cafe stop. Flexible rides

Coordinator: Linton Schwarz

K6 - A great starter group covering 30-40 miles between 11-14 mph. The emphasis is social engagement and gentle exercise. New to cycling? Start here (or K5) and work your way up if you want something more challenging. Or, just stay a while. Plenty of flexibility with some options on starting locations.

Midweek rides

Coordinator: Mark Rawson

Offering a great opportunity to not just ride on a Saturday, these Wednesday groups offer a more flexible range of speed and distance.

This group combines riders from K2 and K3 (see above) so is the faster of the mid week groups but overall speed is governed by the slower rider.

Coordinator: Grant Woodman

The K4 Midweek (Wednesday) Group is for those who want a purposeful ride, a little further, a little faster, and with less breaks for a breather than K5 Midweek. The pace is typically 14-16 mph covering a distance of about 45-55 miles including a café stop at roughly halfway. The rides will be very much governed by the leader on the day, and the Group consensus before the ride starts.

Coordinator: Ian Johnson

The K5 Midweek (Wednesday) Group is a step up from K6 for those who want to ride a little further and faster. K5 usually ride at a speed of 13-15 mph and cover a distance of about 40-50 miles including of course, the all important cafe stop.

The rides will be very much governed by the leader on the day, and the Group consensus before the ride starts.

Coordinator: Nick Martin

The K6 Midweek (Wednesday) Group is our entry level for cyclists who like scenery, conversation and moderate exercise. 30-40 miles between 11 - 14 mph. We head out from Marden and stop roughly half way round at various cafes. You will be made very welcome, so why not give us a try. This one is all about inclusivity.

MTB & Gravel Group rides

Coordinator: Jonathan Hawker

K20’s Gravel Group ride together on a Sunday each month. The rides, which are suitable for anyone on a gravel or mountain bike, cover a distance of 25-30 miles, as much as possible off road, with a break at a suitable point.

Occasionally, the Group will do longer routes or join organised gravel riding events.

Any member of K20 may attend - the group is about fun for all - we don’t race, we enjoy ourselves. Come and enjoy the dirt!

Members may contact the Group Coordinator via the Club WhatsApp Groups for more information on Gravel Rides

Coordinator: Kit Rose

The K20 Mountain Bike (MTB) Group is open to members of all experience and abilities.

The Group meets one Sunday a month during winter (a different day to the Gravel Group) at Bedgebury Pinetum, Goudhurst to ride the singletrack trail and enjoy coffee and banter at the Pinetum café.

During lighter evenings, the Group meets at Bedgebury on Thursday evenings - coffee is replaced by an end of ride drink nearby. The monthly Sunday ride will occasionally go beyond Bedgebury to other riding locations.

Members may contact the Group Coordinator via the Club WhatsApp Groups for more information on MTB Rides

El Capitano!

Group Rides Captain

I’m hoping that if you’ve got this far down on the page you may well be thinking about joining our club and looking for a bit more information.

I’m Del Leslie and I’m the Group Rides Captain. El Capitano!

Each of our groups has a Chef d’Equipe, Someone who coordinates their ride activities, draws up a ride leaders rota and generally tries to maintain some sense of decorum within their group.

My job is to help and guide the Chefs if they need it, and provide a conduit from the members who make up the groups, through to the “grown ups” who make up our Top Team who run the club on behalf of the members.

If you’re thinking of joining and would like a bit more information please feel free to get in touch with me. If I can’t answer your question I will know someone who can. If you are unsure as to which group you might want to join I can discuss that with you and put you in touch with the Chef of the relevant group.
