K20 Mini Sportive raises over £1,000 for Dementia support

In support of Dementia Action Week between 17 and 23 May, K20 Cycling Club held its first ‘mini’ Sportive on Saturday 22 May for members and their guests.

Entry was charged at a modest £10 per cyclist and 56 riders, including a contingent from Paddock Wood Velo, signed up to take part riding over one of the two routes on offer. A steady 41 mile route and a more challenging (and hillier) 64 mile route. Happily, the routes crossed through Lenham which provided those taking part with a number of options for mid-ride refreshment stops.

On return to Marden everyone was greeted by a wonderful array of cakes and savouries kindly hosted by The Revd Nicky Harvey in the garden of the Vicarage. Thankfully, the rain stayed away.

It was an excellent day all round and we were overwhelmed by the wonderful support we received for this event, not just from those cycling but also from our additional helpers and ‘bakers’ who provided the much needed refreshments at the end.

With the combined event entry fees, additional donations by K20 members together with the sales of leftover cakes, we are pleased to announce a total of £1,197.40 was raised for the Dementia Friendly Community of Marden.
