Olympic Velodrome hosts K20 track session

K20 members have followed in the wheel-tracks of Britain’s greatest cycling heroes, with a track session at the Velodrome where Britain won 7 gold medals in 2012.

A lucky 13 riders took to the track at Lee Valley Velodrome, where Gold was won by Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, for a session led by track coach Andrew Newton-Rae.   For many, it was their first time on a track with a fixed wheel bike, so the session familiarised the group with the skills to enjoy safe track riding even though some members were experienced track cyclists.

The slalom proved to be challenging part for the session’s co-ordinator, Kevin Wood.  He came to a complete halt at the top of the banking and promptly fell off, prompting questions about the venue of the Olympic diving event.

Then it was down to business: each rider completed a timed flying 250-metre lap.  K1’s Toby Alldridge took Gold, with Gareth Allen pipped for Silver by K2’s Justin Taylor.   Everyone finished without mishap and loved the session.

K20 will return to Lee Valley Velodrome later in the year – giving riders time to use the K20 Sportive to improve their form and challenge Toby for the top of the podium.
